All spa maintenance requires a good water balance

Spa or swimming pool, the balance of the water is a crucial element to respect. For the spa in particular, it is important to know these three crucial criteria:

  • Get clean spa water with the ideal pH, i.e. between 7.2 and 7.4. If the pH level is too low, and therefore acidic, it can alter your equipment and lead to an uncomfortable bathing experience. If the pH level is high, and therefore basic, the treatment products will not be effective, risking cloudy and corrosive water.
  • Take into account the ideal TH or ideal water hardness between 10 and 20°f (French degrees) or 100 to 200mg/L. There will be corrosion if the water is too soft, and scaling if the water is too hard.
  • Consider the ideal level of alkalinity or TAC between 125 and 150 ppm or mg/L. This criterion is designed to control the buffer of the water or its quality to "resist" changes in pH.

To meet these crucial criteria, we offer you des kits from analyse with which you can maintain your spa.

For more details on these 3 criteria mentioned below, we invite you to read article that follows.

Useful products for spa maintenance

Spa or swimming pool, there will always be essential products for their maintenance. Read here and consider these products before the season starts.

Spa care products are available in three types: chlorine, bromine and active oxygen. The type of treatment selected must always be accompanied by :

  • with an active product as mentioned above (chlorine, bromine or active oxygen).
  • from ph minus and plus
  • of an alkalinity regulator product
  • of an anti-limestone element
  • of a clarifying product
  • of a disinfectant to ensure the effect of the active product
  • a filter cleaner
  • and an anti-foam product (if applicable)

Bayrol has released a complete range of products for your spa. The "Spa Time" qui will make your job easier in terms of spa maintenance.

Chlorine: is one of the cheapest products on the market, used for spa maintenance. It offers excellent results if the water balance is respected. Its little problem is that it does not tolerate high temperatures above 28°. Its effectiveness would then be in decline, risking the projection of molecules that cause an unpleasant smell of chlorine.

Bromine: is considered a good disinfectant like chlorine, except that it is a little expensive. However, this price is worth the quality since bromine is a product that is resistant to temperature and ph variations and is more stable. However, bromine and chlorine do not go together. It is better to use hydrogen peroxide to treat green water than to use both products at the same time. The advice of a pro is advised!

Active Oxygen: is the most suitable product for the maintenance of the spa provided that it is combined with a molecule activator and an algicide to boost its disinfectant effect. Of natural origin, active oxygen does not tolerate temperature rises and variations. For this reason, its use must be rectified by increasing its doses. This product can also be combined with all treatment products, in which case it can be used as a shock treatment in addition to your standard treatment products.

Adopt these habits to facilitate the maintenance of your spa

Discover these 5 criteria to easily maintain your spa every week.

  • As mentioned above, the first criterion to consider is to control the water quality, and to make sure that the water is balanced in pH, TH and TAC. It is necessary to be careful because the water used is hot, and the number of users per m3 is high compared to that of a swimming pool.
  • The use of a mini vacuum cleaner is essential to have a clean spa bottom free of impurities such as grains of sand. A net would also be useful to remove floating debris and to clean the surface properly.
  • The use of a microfiber cloth and a specialized cleaner is recommended for cleaning the spa walls.
  • Feel free to use products suitable for the spa filter, such as Spa Time, to ensure optimal rinsing and cleaning of the filter. Using these types of products allows you to maintain the quality of the filter while prolonging the life and capacity of the filter cartridges.
  • Always keep the correct water level in the spa according to the size and design format.

Final hint: Make sure you have good quality water even if the spa is in a resting state. You are now a spa maintenance pro. Take action and enjoy the season with your feet in the water.

See you soon!
