How to avoid algae formation in the pool?
pH balanced: a crucial criterion to be favoured
Whatever treatment you use for your pool water, it is always recommended to have a balanced ph which ensures the efficiency of the treatment and the quality of the equipment. A balanced pH is a pH between 7.2 and 7.4.
Several factors are behind the formation of algaes, including a high pH which transforms water into basic quality. For example, rainwater entering the pool produces a high pH value, which promotes the development of algae.
However, if the water is acide, algaes are not likely to form quickly.
We will never get tired of telling you, analyze your pH at least twice a week in order to maintain water quality. Don't hesitate to call in a pH adjuster if you need one!
Maintain the ideal level of disinfectant
In addition to a balanced pH, take into account the treatment used and the correct dosage of it to avoid impairing its quality.
To do this, it is advisable to check the level of disinfectant with a test kit and correct it if necessary.
Let's take the example of water disinfected with chlorine. It should always indicates:
- A stable chlorine level at 2mg/L of water
- Chlorine instability between 1 and 1.5mg/L of water
Ensure the quality of filtration
The filtering system is the basis of all good treatment. Not only must it be adapted to the volume of water, but it must also be cleaned regularly to ensure its function. (Valid for skimmers and pump pre-filters).
In order to understand the formation of algae in the pool, it is necessary to adopt a fixed filtration time and to respect it on a daily basis.
We remind you that the filtration time can be programmed depending on the temperature: 1h/degree in the air.
The use of the best flocculant is the last point to be respected. It is essential to use a flocculant capable of perfecting the filter fineness: from 30-40 microns to 10 microns for example.
The best products with which to ensure filtration are the Ultra Clear and CleanPool of Piscimar.
Call on preventive treatment
Do not hesitate to use a preventive treatment that will prevent the formation and development of algaes in your pool.
This type of treatment will ensure the disinfection of your water, so it will block the appearance of algae. However, we advise you to combine it with a preventative anti-algae treatment for more efficiency and especially to kill the algae in full bloom. Your best products are Phos-Out and Algibon.
When using these products, you should take into account the composition of the algaecide and make sure that it is suitable for your filtration, especially with diatomaceous earth and cartridge filters that may be obstructed by the product.
Moss formation should be expected when using algicides and when the filtration level is very high. To avoid this problem, it is preferable to use a different type of algicide than "Quaternary Ammoniums".
Another possibility that may arise is that the algae become familiar with the algicide formula and may form anyway. If this happens, simply change the algaecide and choose one with a different composition. Also try to follow and respect the above-mentioned instructions.
Last but not least, avoid cheap algaecides. A more expensive product offers better quality. Products containing copper sulphate should also be avoided, as they can cause irritation, allergies and soiling of the pool lining if dosed too high.
Regular cleaning of swimming pool: a compulsory step!
Any treatment of the pool must go through regular cleaning of the bottom, the walls, the water line as well as the pump pre-filter and skimmer baskets.
Dirt accumulated in the water must be removed using a robot or a landing net. If you leave them there, they will decompose and algae will surely form! It's the least you can do, but it won't cost you anything.
You should know that warm water is the algae's favourite. In this case, avoid heating the water as little as possible and don't use your bubble blanket during the day.
Professional advice: it is imperative to drain a third of the water and change it for new water at least once a year. This option will be advantageous to you in order to keep the water clean and to reinforce the action of the treatments used.
On C-pscine, we propose a complete range of algicides both in curative as well as preventive!
When preventive treatment is used, we spray the algaecide as a dilute solution on the basin walls. After spraying, the pool must not be rinsed during the watering and restarting of the unit even after emptying. The protective blanket that forms on the walls will surely protect them.
If the algae shows up? What should we do?
The curative treatment is indispensable at the slightest apparition of algaes. Algae formation means slippery walls and bottoms, green stains, cloudy water and mouldy smell. The treatments to use are Phos-Out 3Xl, Actibon, Algiklean.
